CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – After a long hiatus, the Harmony House of Western Massachusetts unveiled its new home for the terminally ill.

The new five-bedroom house is located at 66 View Street in Chicopee. It comes after the original home closed in 2019 before Covid-19 hit. Once the pandemic began, plans to renovate the new home were put on hold.

Now, they’re completely renovated with a fully staffed team to offer companionship, meals, laundry services, and personal and spiritual care. Bishop William Byrne of the Diocese of Springfield visited the house this Friday evening for a blessing and Mass.

Harmony House Board of Directors President, Gina Mazza tells 22News that this new home will provide a comforting and supportive environment for those in their final days. “People at the end of life don’t want to be alone and we are sure that doesn’t happen. We have people that are worked and staffed here, but we also have visual services for people that need some extra special attention, and so that’s really what we are here for,” said Mazza.

They’re looking for at least 10 more volunteers to help out. Their doors officially open at the end of May. Over the next year, they’re trying to raise $100,000 to help pay for residents.
