Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Receives Grant from
    MDRT Foundation

May 3, 2024 — Thanks to the Greater Horizon Financial Group’s partnership, Our Hospice has received a $2,500 grant for its Pediatric Hospice Care services from the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation (MDRT).

The MDRT gives to charitable organizations worldwide, demonstrating the generosity, service, and impact of MDRT members.  This year, the MDRT Foundation will award over $1.8 million in MDRT member-endorsed grants to over 350 charitable organizations worldwide. Greater Horizon Financial Group – Matthew Carothers is an MDRT member and recommended Our Hospice for this grant.

“We are grateful to Greater Horizon Financial Group –Matthew Carothers for recommending and partnering with us for the MDRT grant. The funds will be used for our youngest patients,” said Our Hospice President, Steph Cain. Our Hospice receives a fixed reimbursement rate which often leaves a gap between the reimbursement and the actual cost of care. For example, Our Hospice recently cared for a pediatric patient with private insurance with care costs greater than $60,000. Our Hospice received reimbursement for two-thirds of the total cost and the gap of one-third must be covered by the organization. “The expenses for the level of care needed to provide the best quality of life for our pediatric patients often exceeds the reimbursement from Medicare/Medicaid and other insurances. We rely on philanthropy, including grants like this one, to cover these gaps in reimbursement so we can assure we are here for many generations to come,” said Cain.

Our Hospice pediatric care program provides care for children with a wide range of diagnoses, many of whom are still receiving curative treatments.  “Children are often in our program for years requiring ongoing care adaptations as the child matures; interactions with physicians providing curative treatment; and ongoing changes to equipment and medical services,” explained Our Hospice President, Steph Cain.  “Our specially trained pediatric hospice nurses work with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, home health aides, chaplains, and social workers to provide the best care possible for our youngest patients. This team also provides support to the parents and families providing grief support, both anticipatory guidance from the time of diagnosis to after-death bereavement care,” said Cain.
